This model is entirely hand carved, graduated and assembled with hot hide glue. During this build I elected to focus on hand tools and referenced a machined flat plate and a machined square. The tools I worked with include calipers, rules, block plane, scrub plane, chisels, finger planes, scrappers, rasp, files, spoon, and sweep gouges. I drilled the tuner holes with a drill press and routed the binding channel and peg head shape. Finally I CNC’d the fretboard and mother of pearl inlays for precision. This mandolin has a big warm and bright voice, and is a work of art that’s worthy of the collector, studio, and musician. Includes free lightly used TKL hard shell case that was used to store and transport the instrument throughout the building process.
